Brief History of an Avocation

New Hope, PA Sidewalk Art Show,1958. I was 7 years old and the sidewalks were crowded with paintings. Indescribable colors and shapes of all kinds lined the sidewalks. I knew then what I wanted to do with my life. When I saw Michelangelo's Pieta at the 1964 New York World's Fair, I was so overwhelmed that my Dad let me go though the exhibit again, after some pleading. It was 1967 by the time I was 16 and started making plans to go to art school, but art school looked like a dangerous place to my parents in the 1960's and I gave up. It wasn't until turning 40 that my long stifled interest re-surfaced. I took a lot of art classes, committed to practicing no-matter-what, and learned to paint, mostly; lessons are ongoing.
